Terms & Conditions

Last updated August 2026

By renting from Last Nights Dress NZ ("we", "us", "our") you agree to the following terms. Please read them before confirming your rental.

Standard rentals cover one event and run for three days. Your rental period begins on the day the dress is delivered or collected and ends when it is returned — handed over the counter at an NZ Post shop (postal orders) or dropped back to us (pickup orders).

Extended rentals must be agreed in writing before the rental begins.

Pickup bookings are made through our website via checkout. Postal bookings are arranged via Instagram DM at @lastnightsdressnz or email at lastnightsdressnz@gmail.com so we can quote your exact shipping cost before you pay.

All bookings require full payment before dispatch or collection. A booking is confirmed only once payment has been received in full. We reserve the right to release an unpaid booking if payment is not received within the agreed timeframe.

No bond is required. A valid photo ID matching the legal name on your booking is required at the time of pickup — a New Zealand driver's licence, passport, or Kiwi Access Card. For postal orders, a copy of your ID must be provided before dispatch.

Someone else collecting: That's fine, but you must let us know in advance. The person collecting must bring their own valid photo ID, and the name entered at checkout must match. If you have an ID issue, contact us and we'll work something out.

Saved payment method: When you pay online, your card is saved securely via Stripe. By completing your booking you authorise Last Nights Dress to charge your saved card for any repair or replacement costs up to the RRP of the garment if it is returned damaged beyond the cover provided by the damage waiver (if purchased), or beyond normal wear and tear. You will always be contacted before any additional charge is made.

Holds: We do not hold dresses. After a try-on, you have 48 hours to complete your booking before the dress becomes available to others again.

Last-minute rentals: If you need a dress urgently or a listing appears unavailable, DM us or email lastnightsdressnz@gmail.com — we may be able to accommodate.

Try-ons are available by appointment only at our Totara Vale, Auckland studio — no walk-ins. The try-on fee is $10 per person trying on, credited toward your rental if you book. Friends and family are welcome to come along.

If you'd like to take a dress home on the day, bring your ID and we can arrange it on the spot.

Rental priority: Confirmed rentals always take priority over try-on appointments. If a dress you have booked for a try-on is rented by another customer before your appointment, we will contact you as soon as possible to reschedule or suggest alternatives. We will always do our best to accommodate you, but we cannot guarantee availability of a specific style for try-on until the day of your appointment.

Return shipping is quoted exactly before you pay. A prepaid return bag is included with every postal order — the return label costs $7–$9 depending on the current fuel surcharge. Rural addresses incur an additional surcharge.

Receiving your parcel:

  • Your dress is dispatched three working days before your event. Example: for a Friday event, your dress is dispatched on Tuesday.
  • Couriers can deliver as late as 5pm on the delivery day — please don't panic if your parcel hasn't arrived by morning.
  • We provide your tracking number on dispatch.
  • We are not responsible for delays caused by the courier once dispatched (see Section 7 for what happens if your dress arrives late).

Returning your parcel:

  • Post your dress back the next working day by 2pm, handed over the counter at any NZ Post shop. Do not use street posting boxes — they are not always cleared or scanned the same day, and an unscanned parcel counts as unreturned (see Section 8).
  • Weekend example: If you receive your dress on Thursday or Friday for a weekend event, your return day is the following Monday — over the counter by 2pm. You're welcome to post it back Saturday or Sunday at an open NZ Post shop if more convenient.
  • Please use the prepaid return bag provided. The over-the-counter scan is your proof of on-time return.

Delivery issues: If tracking shows your parcel as "delivered" but you have not received it, contact us immediately so we can investigate with the courier. Once a parcel is confirmed delivered to the address you provided, responsibility for the garment passes to you — if it is subsequently lost or stolen and cannot be located, you are liable for the replacement cost. Let us know of any delivery instructions before dispatch.

Pickup and drop-off is at our Totara Vale, Auckland location. University of Auckland handover is available by special request — arrange via DM in advance.

Picking up:

  • Available from 10am–8pm on your selected collection day.
  • The exact address is provided once your order is ready to collect.

Returning:

  • Return your dress by 8pm the next day unless otherwise arranged.
  • Weekend example: Collect on Friday for a Saturday event → return Sunday by 8pm.
  • Returns go into our secure return box at the drop-off address. A photo of the dress in the box must be sent to us — your return is not complete until the photo is received.

Picked up but want to post back?

  • This must be arranged at the time of booking. Our scheduling assumes pickup dresses are physically returned the next day — unarranged postal returns take longer and can affect other customers' bookings.
  • A prepaid return bag can be provided for $7–$9 depending on the current fuel surcharge.
  • If you post a dress back without arranging it in advance and it delays or affects another booking, the full rental fee may be charged in addition to your rental.

You are responsible for returning the dress in the condition it was sent. Please do not:

  • Wash, dry-clean, or iron the dress — all cleaning is handled by us
  • Apply fake tan, heavy perfume, or spray products while wearing the dress
  • Alter, pin, cut, or repair the dress in any way

Damage on receipt: Check your dress when it arrives. Report any existing damage or staining within 12 hours of delivery or collection via DM. Damage reported within this window is not your responsibility. Issues raised later are assessed case by case.

Normal wear: Minor wear consistent with normal use is expected and covered.

Damage beyond normal wear: Stains, tears, missing embellishments, broken zips, or marks that do not respond to standard cleaning will incur a repair or professional cleaning fee. We will always discuss any charge with you before applying it. Any fees will be invoiced to you.

Severe damage or loss: If a dress is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair — including through misuse or negligence — you are liable for the full replacement cost, being the RRP listed for that garment at the time of booking. This includes dresses lost in transit on the return journey, which is why we recommend the prepaid return bag and an over-the-counter scan.

Full refund or credit note:

  • Cancellation more than 7 days before your event date.
  • Cancellation within 24 hours of booking, provided the dress has not yet been dispatched or collected. Example: book Tuesday 4pm for the following Saturday → cancel by Wednesday 4pm for a full refund.

50% refund or full credit note:

  • Cancellation 3–7 days before your event date.

No refund (credit note at our discretion):

  • Cancellation less than 3 days before your event date.
  • No-shows: unclaimed postal parcels or missed pickups.
  • Change of mind or fit issues after dispatch or collection.

Credit notes are valid for 12 months and can be used on any rental.

Courier delays: If your dress does not arrive in time for your event due to a courier delay despite being dispatched on schedule, you receive a full credit note covering the rental fee and postage.

Unwearable on arrival: If your dress arrives damaged or stained to the point of being unwearable, you are eligible for a full refund — provided you return it the very next day (for pickup orders, weekends and public holidays included; for postal orders, the next working day applies) so we can assess it. If the issue is minor and you choose to wear the dress, a partial refund may be offered instead.

If we cancel: If we cannot fulfil your booking (e.g. the dress is damaged by a prior renter or lost in return transit), you receive a full refund or the option of an alternative dress.

Postal orders: A $20 late fee applies per working day the parcel is scanned past the 2pm over-the-counter cutoff. Example: due Monday — scanned Tuesday before 2pm → $20. Scanned Tuesday after 2pm → $40.

Pickup orders: A $20 late fee applies per day past the 8pm return time. Example: due Monday 8pm, returned Tuesday → $20. Wednesday → $40.

Street post boxes: A postal return must be handed over the counter at an NZ Post shop. A street post box is not tracked, so it is charged as a $20 late fee.

Garment bag: The dress must be returned in its garment bag. A $5 fee applies if the bag is not returned.

If the dress is not returned at all by the day after it was due, the full rental fee is charged again — and you must still return the dress, with late fees continuing to accrue at $20 per day until it is back with us. Failure to return a rental garment may be treated as theft.

If you think you'll be late, DM us or email lastnightsdressnz@gmail.com as soon as possible — we're much more flexible when we hear from you early.

We collect only the personal information needed to process your rental — name, address, contact details, and a copy of your photo ID. We do not share your information with third parties. ID copies are held only for the duration of your rental and deleted once the dress is returned. By booking, you consent to us storing your details for the purpose of fulfilling your rental.
